“So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.“ (Luke 5:11)
That day, a true miracle happened! Jesus came to the lake side, to where Simon, Jacob and John were fishing and left their fishing boats. He told Simon to put out into deep water and let down the nets for a catch. At first, Simon spoke as a professional fisherman, “Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything.” But what happened next? They caught many fish and their nets were so full that they began to tear. If we are to apply today's theory of success, perhaps we're thinking that Simon and his group should have asked Jesus to stay with them, to perform more of such miracles, so that they could be the greatest fishing tycoons of their day. But things did not happen that way. Simon responded with something that is totally unrelated to fishing. He said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” However the Lord did not ask him to leave. Rather, he asked Simon to follow Him, and they left everything and followed Him. That is truly a miracle. Sinners need the Lord. |
